Intumescent coating / fire proofing coating
Intumescent coatings, also known as fireproofing coatings, are specialized materials designed to protect structural elements from fire damage by expanding when exposed to high temperatures. This expansion creates an insulating char layer that protects the underlying substrate.
Types of Intumescent Coatings
- Water-Based Intumescent Coatings: Cold galvanizing coatings typically contain a high percentage of zinc dust (often 90% or more), providing excellent corrosion protection.
- Solvent-Based Intumescent Coatings: The coatings can be easily applied using conventional painting techniques, such as spraying or brushing.
- Thin Film Intumescent Coatings: Many cold galvanizing products cure quickly, allowing for faster project completion and less downtime.
- Thick Film Intumescent Coatings: Can be used over previously galvanized surfaces, painted surfaces, or bare metal.
